To my
Constituents:
You might
think that the school board doesn’t really have any direct
effect on you or your family especially if you don’t have
children of school age. However, children or not, the decisions
made by the school board directly effect all of us.
Loudon County
residents are currently facing higher property taxes and
possibly the implementation of a wheel tax. These increased and
new taxes are a direct result of the poor decision making and
fiscal management of the current school board. The board has
squandered millions of dollars on wasteful and unnecessary
spending.
But when it
comes to the management of our schools, things get even worse.
The current board has allowed some of the facilities to fall
into such a state of disrepair, that at Greenback School,
firemen must be paid to walk the halls of the school during the
day to assure the safety of the students. This fire watch as it
is known was mandated by the State Fire Marshal due to
horrendous condition and fire code violations at the school. The
auditorium at Loudon High School is off limits to students due
to the unsafe conditions of the building. Again a mandate by the
State Fire Marshal. There are maintenance issues at nearly all
the facilities that continue to go un-repaired. Year after
year, the Loudon County Commission has consistently funded the
board yet year after year, the board has consistently misused the funding.
Who suffers
most? The students. Getting a good education in this age is not
optional. Our students deserve the opportunity to receive a
quality education without having to worry about the safety of
the building they sitting in or freezing to death when the heat
doesn’t work or sweltering in the summer when the air
conditioning doesn’t work.
Some of the
current members of the Loudon County Board Of Education
including my opponent, have stood by while both the quality of
education and the integrity of the facilities have been
compromised. The tax payers of Loudon County, the parents of
students in the Loudon County Schools and especially the more
than 5000 students deserve better, much better.
That’s why I
am asking for your support in the August 7th
election. It’s Time For Action, Not Excuses
